Day Trips In Argyll
En Route: Inveraray
Inveraray is only a 60 or 70 minute drive from Kirkton House - passing the forest walk at Cairndow on the way.
The Cairndow, the tallest tree in Britain can be found - a Douglas Fir that has grown in a valley, and is therefore not visible from the road!
Also on the way to Inveraray from the accommodation at Kirkton House, at the head of Loch Fyne, you pass the Oyster Bar.
The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is an excellent place for a fresh sea food meal - or to purchase sea food for the freezer.
Inveraray Attractions
On arrival at Inveraray, a hump-back bridge must be negotiated as you drive into Inverarary, with the Castle on your right - the seat of the Campbell Clan and the Duke of Argyll.
The Town Jail has gruesome equipment to make life pretty unbearable for the inmates - the sort of place you'd like to leave those horrendous neighbours or relatives from hell!
There are good walks within the grounds of the famous Inveraray Castle, and the coffee shop downstairs [to the right hand side, on the outside of the castle] offers the opportunity to see the old kitchens - without having to pay an entrance charge!
