Charles Rennie MacIntosh
With a great deal of influence in the fields of architecture and art nouveau in the early part of the last century, the works of Charles Rennie MacIntosh are evident in and around Glasgow.
Most famously, he designed Hill House, at Helensburgh [just four miles from Kirkton House in Cardross] for publisher Walter Blackie in 1902/4.
Hill House is now a National Trust of Scotland property, open from Easter to the end of October from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
A tour of MacIntosh's other works should include the Glasgow Herald Building, a Scotland Street School on the south side, the Glasgow School of Art, the Willow Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall Street, the Hunterian Gallery/Museum, and the House for the Art Lover in Bellahouston Park - amongst many other examples of his work in the area.
